Inspired by the natural world, Sara develops her embroidery from research of historical, cultural and first hand observation.
Drawing on paper is fundamental to the process to explore composition and design. Ideas in fabric and thread emerge to interpret and further develop the work. Pieces aim to make one reflect and sometimes hint at humour.
Many pieces start with layers of translucent fabrics which are held together by further layers of hand or machine stitching. Some pieces are worked on a handmade felt base or vintage embroidered tray cloths.
